The Tidal Surge is a virtual soundwalk by artist Farah Awada, composed from recordings of Beirut during the 2019 uprising, the COVID-19 lockdown, and the economic crises that unfolded between them. Bringing together sounds, images, objects, and people from Awada’s life during this period, the work traces the city’s movement between public uproar and enforced stillness.

Rhéa Dally developed and produced the sound design in collaboration with Awada, with final mixing and mastering by Zaki Al Hamwi.

The soundwalk was presented as part of the virtual exhibition Norient City Sounds: Beirut, curated and edited by Rayya Badran.
